1.Straight taps are versatility, they can be used for through-hole or blind hole, non-ferrous metals or ferrous metals, such as blind rivet nuts, slotted rivet nuts. The price is cheap, and the quality is relatively poor.
2.Spiral taps are more suitable for blind hole thread like blind rivet nuts, the cuttings discharge backward in the processing. In the processing of ferrous metals, choose a small spiral angle, about 30 degrees in general, to ensure the strength of the helical teeth. In the processing of non-ferrous metals, choose a larger spiral angle, about 45 degrees or so, to keep sharp in cutting.
3.Extrusion tap is more suitable for non-ferrous metals, especially aluminum alloy castings. It is used in the internal thread formed by metal extrusion and deformation. Extruded forming is non-cutting, the threaded holes through the extrusion process have high tensile and shear strength, the roughness of the machined surface is also better, but the requirement for the bottom of the extruded cone is higher, if it is too large, not enough strength, or too small, then the tap is prone to break.
4.Spiral pointed taps are more suitable for through-hole threads, the cuttings discharge forward in machining. It has a larger solid core size, better strength, larger cutting force, so bring the good effect in processing non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, black metal.
