1. A wide front-side flange provides a large load-bearing surface. This reinforces the hole and prevents push-through. It’s also possible to apply a sealant beneath the flange for weatherproof applications.
2. A thick flange can act as a spacer and provide some extra push-out strength.
3. Countersunk and low-profile heads ensure flush or near-flush installation, such as countersunk head round body rivet nut.
4. Wedges or knurls underneath the head are designed to bite into the mating material and keep the fastener from turning in the hole, such as small countersunk head knurled body nuts.
In order to prevent the fastener from spinning in the hole at high torque levels, especially in aluminum, plastic or other soft materials, steel rivet nuts come in many body styles. Apart from the cylindrical body with a smooth surface, there are splined, square and hexagonal bodies available.
