Hex bolts have a basic shape and offer a universal fastener application, a matching nut is usually needed for use with a hex bolt. Hex bolts are most commonly applied in the auto and construction industries.

Carriage bolts have a smooth, rounded heat and may also include a small section that can be used for locking the head into place when the bolt is tightened, a carriage bolt also requires a matching threaded nut. Carriage bolts are commonly used to fasten wood components together and often in large structural elements.

Eye bolts are made with circular rings that can be used for attaching a chain or a rope, what’s the different, they don’t often need nuts. Eye bolts are best suited for hanging heavy objects and are typically used in lighting fixtures.
