When talked about the fasteners, people would refer to bolts, nuts and screws due to its commonly using in our daily life. But, many other ways of fastening exist as well. Such as rivets, the riveting once was popular and necessary in the construction of metal framed buildings and structures.
A rivet consists of a smooth cylindrical shaft and a head called the factory head on one end. And the other end opposite the head is known as the buck-tail or shop head. To hold the rivet in place, the buck-tail is about 1.5 times than the shaft diameter. They are usually applied by the tool of a hammer of such kind of tools. When in riveting, the pressure is required to push the factory head to place the rivets into the holes. Finally, the rivet will fill the hole tightly. Due to this fact, it is hard or impossible to find out such a tight fit among other fasteners.
